Hi everyone,
I'm going to see my GP tomorrow and I'm googling everything to do with bowel cancer and convinced myself I have it. Symptoms, a good bit of bright red blood on stools, no other symptoms. My mum had it in her 70's but thankfully is thriving at 86. Would people who have been diagnosed usually have other symptoms, don't think ill be getting much sleep tonight. Thanks in advance, jools
Hi Jools89. Please stop googling - you’ll get yourself stressed and that will not help things. The main thing is that you’re going to get checked out and find out what’s causing the issue. There are a lot of things that can cause similar symptoms to bowel cancer like piles, diverticulitis, ibs etc. but the important thing is to see the doctor and hopefully they’ll refer you for a colonoscopy.
Bowel cancer is very treatable nowadays as your mum has shown and only 10% of colonoscopies result in a bowel cancer diagnosis.
Please let us know how you get on?
Take care

Hi Karen thanks So muh for replying. Yes I've piles since being pregnant but they've never bothered me. I'm hoping that's all it is as no other symptoms, there's a lot of blood though at least it seems that way. I think I'll be asking for a colonoscopy but don't want to come across as a mad woman, which I actually am!
Hi
It's good you are seeing your GP tomorrow. Just to check up is always a good idea. I was diagnosed in May '19, but never noticed any blood in my stools.
Wishing you well.
Maarianne
As others have said - don’t Google, it can be the worse thing to do and give you more sleepless nights. My symptoms were not feeling like I’ve properly emptied and feeling bloated all the time which led to my IBS diagnosis. I then started with blood in Oct, a month after my IBS. I’ve never really noticed any other symptoms.
Hi Jools89.
Symptoms can be wide ranging and very different between people. However I wouldn't assume the worst as there are many things it could be.
Good luck at GP today and I'd suggest you ask them for FIT test (poo sample test ypu do at home) and rectal digital check (GP's finger briefly up your bottom to check for lumps and bleeding).
Thanks everyone for replies.
I nearly chickened out as I have severe white coat syndrome ( fear of medical situations ) Anyway he reckoned it was probably bleeding internal hemorrhoids however , given my family history he is sending me for a colonoscopy just to be sure. So waiting for an appointment, fingers crossed that's all it is. Google is so dangerous!!
Hi Jools89.
Did you get referred for FIT test?
