Hi everyone. Very much new to this so bear with me. I’m a 42 year old male and got diagnosed with colorectal cancer in December after a colonoscopy. I start my treatment on Tuesday. I need to have 5 weeks chemo and radiation combined, followed by a further 12 weeks chemo treatment on its own before the operation. I know the chemo treatment with the radio is a tablet form. Four tablets morning and evening and know that the Chemo on its own will be done at the Christie hospital. It all feels like a dream a lot of the time and know things are going to be hard in the coming months. Has anyone else experienced this treatment plan?
Thanks for listening everyone
Hello!
Welcome to the group! I had surgery before I started chemo, diagnosed in September last year and surgery was November. I go every 2 weeks and have chemo (Folfox). It's an overwhelming time, lots of information to take in and I know what you mean about it feeling like a dream! I am due to have my 4th dose of chemo on Friday, and I was terrified at first and while it does come with some challenges it is honestly nowhere near as awful as I had built it up in my head.
I am sure there will be others on here that have had similar regime as you, lots of lovely helpful people on here. Sorry I've not been much help.
All the very best with your treatment
Bex
Hi Digger
Sorry to hear that you have joined the club. I had the first part of your treatment before my operation. Like you, five weeks of radiotherapy, five days a week, plus Capecitabine tablets seven days a week. You will have been measured up for the table by now and shown the equipment. It is brilliant machinery and works well. It shrunk my tumour to the point where the surgeon almost didn't operate, though it turned out the correct decision to do so. The side effects I had from this part of the treatment were slight and do-able and I was monitored throughout.
I can't help you with the next part. I then had an operation, a LAR with temporary ileostomy, and then had three months of Capox chemo, which wasn't so much fun but has hopefully done the job.
I hope it all goes well for you and that you have a successful outcome.
Cheers, John
Thanks so much for replying John. Your treatment sounds very similar to mine in ways. I’ve been measured up for the table and have had my markings done. I hope everything works out for John and thanks again for replying
