I was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer and secondary liver cancer in 2021. Surgery is not an option, so I have been on palliative chemotherapy since 27 October 2021. I recently had a CT scan and discussion with my oncologist about the results. During the discussion, the oncologist advised that both the tumour in the colon and the tumours in the liver have reduced. This positive response has been due to the addition of Panitumumab (Vectibix) to my treatment.
However, in addition to the good news about the tumours, the radiologist suspects that the cancer has spread to the lining of the stomach (this seems contradictory to the tumours shrinking but what do I know) and is causing the production of fluid (which is adding to the stomach pain I am experiencing). The oncologist is suggesting that an ultra sound would help confirm the situation and if it is the case they could arrange for me to have the fluid drained from my stomach. This seems a better option than to just keep increasing the dose of tramadol pain killers I am taking.
So here then is my question, does anyone have any experience of the stomach draining procedure? I would be v grateful for any feedback

Hi Hengadnomawr
I have added Macmillan’s link to managing ascites . My mum has had it twice . If you look at the link one of the last reasons mentioned is to do with the function of the liver . There has been times when my mum does not produce enough protein and fluid builds up . She has been able to use diuretics to assist with that . It was not actually cancer in her abdomen but they did question that it might be . Having seen this before in her I was quietly thinking it was more of the same . She is still on the diuretics .
Hope you get it under control. Sounds as though you are responding well to treatment.
Thats great news about the shrinkage . Hope you get the ultrasound soon and sorted out .
Take care ,
