Just joined the group. Early in my journey and trying to get my head round everything. Picked up through bowel screening in August. Fast forward scope/polyp removal (which all looked good) came the adenocarcinoma news! My cancer is recital and I am away to get surgery and totally shitting myself
Hi TWS,
Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I was diagnosed with bowel cancer in September, it's an overwhelming thing!
Do you know how long the wait is for surgery?
I have found this group really supportive and it's nice to know we are not on our own. And also the McMillan nurses at the hospital are really amazing, always happy to answer my questions.
Take care
Thank u for ur message. I haven’t seen any macnillan nurses. Just the surgeon and I have a contact for colorectal nursing team. My op is possibly end jan start of Feb. I’ve had the pre-op assessment and have signed consent etc.
The worst bit (apart from thinking of worst case scenarios is the emotional/mental health affect. I feel so overwhelmed at times x
Hi TWS
I was picked up exactly the same June 21 and had a LAR Aug 4th 21.
It’s frightening I know but concentrate on getting that cancer in the bin.
I had lots of wobbles but I decided I would let them sort out that horrid thing and I’d work on my mental and physical health.
I grazed on small meals that I could digest. I drank two meal supplements and did my pelvic floor exercises twice a day. It helped. I also used free apps on my phone to give me some head space. Mindfulness or meditating they all helped calm me
Do you know what op you’re having?
Take care
Keep chatting if it helps

It is overwhelming, I know for me my life felt like it has been turned upside down over night!
I completely understand the emotional and mental health struggle, I think that is normal and completely understandable it is a very scary thing to be faced with, and I think the waiting for things to happen is really hard.
My experience of surgery was that it wasn't anywhere near as scary as I thought it would be, my surgeon was lovely and the surgery team really put me at ease.
x
I know how you feel I heard everything that I was told. My surgeon was fantastic and thorough. I understood it all but then I had info given to me to remind me if I wanted. I put it in the drawer and left it there
I had a 10cm or 4 inch tumour removed.
You can read my back story
My surgery went well I was out in five days and had power naps and low fibre diet as I had an Ileostomy. I’m not sure you’ll have that as you’re not having so much removed. But if you do have a stoma there’s no problem with it.
The pain meds did their job, I did the recommended exercises and I recovered really well
Stayed away in a hotel six weeks later ,ate out just enjoyed life Flew to Spain
I didn’t need chemo but I would of gone for it if they’d thought it was needed
Your nurses will advice you one the best diet afterwards probably low fibre
Take care

No worries.
I was terrified and didn’t join here. I really wish I had, I joined selfishly when I had issues with my stoma and the support and confidence I gain was amazing.
Any worries pop them up.
Take care treat yourself.
Make sure you’ve got everything you need for your hospital stay.
