Hello

new to this. Diagnosed early December and was so pleased to be scheduled for surgery next week, but it has just been postponed for 8 weeks as I had covid over Christmas and hospital policy is to have a 7 week gap. I do understand but just so disappointed and concerned the delay will mean a worsening condition. I did tell them before I met with the surgeon but it only became a problem at the pre op today.

Reeling a bit - just wanted to share - it’s all a bit scary Scream

  •  Hi and welcome to the board. What a disappointment but I know I was told the same thing about covid before my hip replacement.
Bowel cancer is very slow growing and the surgeons will have a clear picture of your condition. Something that may be worth bearing in mind is that rectal tumours are often treated with 5 weeks of radiotherapy followed by a 7-10 week wait while the radiotherapy carries on working so people with a tumour in this area regularly have a couple of months wait for surgery. I was diagnosed in July 2016 and had surgery at the end of November.

Glad you’ve joined us here and if there’s anything we can help you with, please reach out

    Take care

  • Thank you! I’m sure I’ll settle down once the shock wears off - had my bags packed and completed the pre op appointments so thought I was on my way! I don’t know anything about Colin cancer so good to hear it’s slow growing!! And breathe….

    thank you for sharing

  • It’s just rotten  but it’s the same here in Scotland . Apparently there is an increase risk of a thrombosis with covid hence the recovery time to ensure safety when operating. Or something along these lines .
