Hi all I'm new to this so please bare with me I was diagnosed 3months ago and start chemo on the 10rt to be followed by radiotherapy and then finally the operation ,originally I was told it was going to be a five week course of chemo and radiotherapy  so the change to the plan left me devastated as its going to be alot longer than I was originally told

  • Hello  ,

I'm new here too. It's all a bit of a roller coaster but I've found other people's shared experiences have helped me, given me some preparation & some hope.

All the best for next week!

  • Hi Jillybobs

i wanted to say hello and others will be along that have had chemo and radiotherapy. I was straight in for the operation

Once the treatment starts you will be able to feel that the cancer is under attack.
I found the waiting the hardest.
    Sending you a hug xx

  • Thank you, I agree the waiting on the hardest I have put the operation to the back of my mind for the moment hope your having a good recovery

  • Hello Jillybobs,

    Welcome.

I know a change of plan can be devastating but I'm sure it's for the good. When I was diagnosed I decided to let the experts make the decisions and that I'll follow their plan.

I was diagnosed with rectal cancer in October last.... Today I've just had day 20 of 25 radiotherapy and oral chemotherapy (Capecitabine) treatments. I've had some side effects like constipation, as tumor is inflamed from treatment, nausea and tiredness but nothing too debilitating.

I'll then need surgery after this to remove whatever is left. I'm ready to meet that head on too. This is my personal journey and view and I know everyone's case is different.

I hope you sail through your treatment, the outcome can only be good....Smiley

    Take care, Ralph.

  • Thanks hopefully everything will go well for yourself too

    Hi ,

Just linking in an article you might find reassuring. This has change some of the practice around treatment as they are getting better long term outcomes for a sub group of patients . I have noticed recently a few patients having this plan .

    Take care ,

  • Hi Jillybobs

I had surgery almost two years ago, followed by 8 cycles of capecetabine including 2 infusions (no radiotherapy)

I decided immediately on diagnosis that I WOULD survive and lead a full and almost unchanged life.

"Eddie" is my constant and permanent companion and we get on fine even though there are times when he doesn't play the game!!

Living with cancer is definitely possible and life is to be enjoyed and lived to the full.

    Good luck
