Hi All!
I'm just on to pick some brains with you. Jay hasn't been great today mainly feeling very cold and went back to bed and been there most of the day. Is it possible with the immune system being low in cancer that catching a common cold can make it feel 10 times worse? and is there anything you can give for it medication wise? The nurse came in today to change Jay's dressing and to flush his picc line and she took his temperature, and it was normal. She said it could be a side effect of the chemo because sometimes these can cause chills in the body. He's 5FU (Irinotecan and Flouroacil) I'm beginning to worry now because this is the way he went when they had to stop his last chemo course, but he wasn't feeling cold at that time. I've been taking his temperature a couple of times throughout the day, and it has been well within the reading range it should be below 37.5 and not under 36. He's been up and eaten his dinner but just wanted to go back to bed again. He overate slightly yesterday as well well, ate more than what he has been doing recently and he said he had a bit of a sore tummy this morning. Anyone any ideas. Thanks.
Vicky
PattyK . Hi Vicky. I think I would be tempted to ring the chemo dept/24 hour helpline that you have and run it past them? Might just be a cold but it’s best to make them aware and they can also advice what medication is acceptable
Take care

Best to get in touch with your GP if he's 'coughing up a lot of green gunk,' which is usually a sign of a chest infection - which might need antibiotics.

Turns out it was a chest infection Marianne (see my post) he had the option of just coming home with antibiotics or stayin in overnight just for observation so decided to do that. They're giving him units of blood too as his platelets are a bit low because of the chemo. Sees me as a `traitor` I think for getting him in there only has his best interests at heart.

You did the right thing - hope he feels better soon!
