General surgery appointment

Hi I have had 2 Colonoscopies recently. After the first one I was told I had nothing to worry about but would need a second one to remove some polyps (I am on blood thinners) I had been warned this was a possibility. The first colonoscopy was in August. The polypectomy was the arranged in October but at this one I was told that they couldn't remove some if the polyps and the doctor performing it as he was pretty sure there are signs if cancer. Everything now seems to be going really fast. I have had bloods taken, a CT scan and an MRI. I now have a general surgery appointment on Tuesday. I feel pretty numb. I haven't told anybody apart from my partner. Just about managing to work. So anxious, finding it hard to sleep and finding it hard to eat. Thought I would wait till after the appointment so I might be a bit more clear about what is going to happen before I start telling people. I don't feel in control and worry about how a cancer diagnosis might effect my loved one. I know it will effect me but I feel once I know what's going to happen I will find it easier to talk to people about it. Just feel I need to talk and have talked to my partner  a bit - I am sure this must be effecting him. I think we are both trying to put on a brave face and keep things as normal as possible. I just feel in limbo as I am not clear what will happen next. Between Google and my own thoughts I have been through hundreds of possibilities!

Thanks to anybody who takes the time to read this!

  • Hi Geminipi

You have found a place to have support and advice.

You can click on peoples names to read their back stories.

The early days I found the worst and I was all over the place.
Dr Google can be really misleading and caused me to panic. Once you get your treatment plan you’ll be able to hand yourself over to the medics to sort the cancer out

Please try not to think the worst it sounds as if you’ve been caught early and you’re treatment is planned. Once you know what the plan is you can put it here and have lots of advice

    Im sending you a hug

    Take care

  • Definitely steer clear if google and all it's doom laden misinformation

Ive been exactly where you are, quick fire tests and then a diagnosis and action.

Try to think positive, it may not be the worst, and your lived one will support you all the way whatever happens.

The medics are fantastic and will help and guide you along whatever path needs to be taken.

Good luck and remember that there are loads of people on here that are experiencing what you are.

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the board. Yes it does feel a bit like limbo land waiting for meetings and results but things will honestly feel a bit better once you have a treatment plan in place. As the others have said - stay away from google - you can ask anything you like on here and we’ll be happy to help.

I agree that it’s often easier to tell people once you have a clearer picture - my surgeon told me that they were treating me with ‘a view to cure’ which was reassuring. I’ve attached a link to a booklet that I was given at my first meeting which you may like to look at?

Please let us know how your meeting goes and we’ll be happy to help and support you through this

    Take care

I too was so devastated when I was told I had bowel, liver and stomache cancer.

I did feel I could share it with many people.

I seem to suffer with extreme anxiety. Has any one gone on tablets for this?

I have lost of appetite and extreme anxiety.

Just finished a course of capacitabine which has helped the liver but the stoache is worse.

I am sue to start Folfiri next week but am worried about side effects.

    I am feeling so scared.

  • Meeting done but it has thrown up all sorts of things! The biopsies have shown abnormal cells but not cancer even although the consult feels like it is cancer! The CT and MRI show no cancer spread but they found a large fibroid(11 cm) Plan in place  Next is another colonoscopy to remove some other polyps and take deeper biopsies from the abnormal polyp. Provisionally the plan is a short does of radio therapy with a low dose chemo pill? Then surgery to get rid of the abnormal polyp and a hysterectomy to remove the fibroid - I think this will be done in one go! I think the one if the outcomes then could be a stoma but there is a long way before that. Relieved he said really treatable! I think the issue with the abnormal polyp is it position near the rectum!

Feeling much calmer about things. Still have to get my head round somethings as there was a lot to take in.

The fibroid was a total surprise! A bit confused the plan seems the same if the polyp is cancerous or not! But I think they did say oncology would be reluctant to get involved if cancer isn't found?!

Feeling a little confused but now have the third colonoscopy/polyp removal booked in a couple of weeks.
