Hi all,
I am new here and just had a few questions. I had very low rectal cancer. My surgeon removed my entire rectum. He said he was just barely able to connect my colon to my anus. I was on an Ileostomy for about 3 months. I just had my Ileostomy reversal 11 days ago. I was constipated at first but hen through stool softeners, things started moving a little. Yesterday my surgeon dialated me (not fun) and since that time I have been going to the bathroom about every 15 to 30 minutes. Sometimes I just finish and I go again. I can’t stop it. My bum is so sore that I have started going into the shower to clean off. I am using Desiten and flushable wet wipes. My question is have others gone through this kind of frequencies and what have others done for the sore bum? Also, if this frequency is going to last for weeks or months, how have others worked?
thanks,

Hi jdr 7665
You might find some useful material on the LARS section of the stoma group. I still have a couple of cm of rectum remaining, so not quite the same as you. But I hope the ideas and sources you’ll find in the LARS section will be helpful. Improvement is always possible. Nearly 2 years on from reversal, I’m still making progress, even if I still hit the odd pothole.
For the sore bum, anusol in a tube or as a suppository has eased the discomfort.
Hi I was reversed Sep 2nd and those early days were painful especially the sore bum. I tried creams but the best tip I’d like to pass on is a portable bidet. It’s really a bottle with a long nozzle I got it from Amazon. I found spraying clean water so soothing tap dry with soft toilet paper and apply pile cream or sudocrem/ Vaseline really helped.
My frequency was the same and I tried to adjust the consistency with diet eventually I tried what my surgeon said. One 2mg Loperamide before bed. I know it says before food but that made my stools hard so this was a good option for me.
If I eat safe I know I’m okay when I overindulge I know I’m going to pay
The stoma Reversal support group are amazing

Thank you Wellspring. I will check out the LARS section and I will also try anusol.
