I’ve just joined as I just need some support please. Awaiting a colonoscopy which seems to have been rushed through! Have had unusual bowel movements and pain. Had a colonoscopy several years ago and they found polyps! Not been followed up and now terrified of what results will be! Family history of bowel cancer too! Trying to cope but fear is taking over
Hi Pay and a warm welcome to the board. Once referred they try to get you a colonoscopy within 2 weeks. There’s lots of things that can cause changes to bowel movements and it’s good that you’re getting checked out. The waiting for appointments and results is very stressful but once you know what you’re dealing with the things will honestly feel a bit better.
Just seen that you’ve commented on another post. Have you already had your colonoscopy?
Glad you’ve reached out - there’s lots of support on here
Take care

Thank you x no, had consultant call me last Monday and have colonoscopy on Saturday. Have all the prep sachets! Wondering how awful that’s going to be x yes, it’s the unknown and as you say once you have results you can at least know what you’re up against! Just feel that my Nan and Dad had and feeling odds are against me x
Hi Pay!
Welcome to the forum. The prep sachets can be a bit horrendous before the colonoscopy. I never knew, but I don't know how it goes everywhere when my husband went for his, they asked him how he managed on the sachets, and they told him congratulations on taking all the sachets and it wasn't really necessary to take them all and some who went for the colonoscopy didn't take them all. It was how my husband found out about his bowel cancer but please don't let that scare you at the time they couldn't tell if it was cancer, he had just that there were `abnormalities` and like you we were all over the place. Biopisies, CTs and MRI scans were done, and he got his diagnosis in July 2021 but luckily it was localised and hadn't spread and was operated on in January this year and was cleared but unfortunately it came back and we were told this in June this year and for now he is going through chemotherapy. Take Care.

Hi Pay. Have you got the moviprep? It’s not very nice I’m afraid. Top tips are to make it up then pop it in the fridge to chill. I then broke it down into 15 minute intervals and tried to have 3 big slurps through a wide straw then a big swig of tonic water with lemon to take the taste away. Some people add cordial (not blackcurrant) but if you try that I would add it to a small amount first in case it makes it worse!
I’ve had 2 colonoscopies and each time they’ve checked that I’ve finished both sachets so try and do so if you can even if you’re just passing liquid by that stage
Take care

Hi
Moviprep is an experience. I had my first colonoscopy prior to diagnosis and was stupid enough to eat a large bowl of pasta 4 hours before starting the sachets. I had 20 minutes of discomfort to say the least as the sachets began to flush the food through the system. Once over the initial pains, it all went smoothly but my advice is to only eat what you need and definitely bland and easily digested wbite stuff!
I now have a stoma and am on surveillance so my 2nd colonoscopy was through the stoma which is interesting again but having learned the lesson, it all went easily.
I didn't add favourings as I actually dont mind the sachets slightly lemony taste. Lucky me!!!
Good luck
Hi Pay
It is frightening but just take a deep breathe and go for it. I used to think at least they were going to check me out and maybe all was okay
My husband had test after test with polyps, IBS then diverticulosis! Not cancer
I had one colonoscopy and there you go. You can’t be sure what it is until they’ve finished their investigations.
Take care. Keep chatting if it helps.

Hi Pay.
Colonoscopy on Saturday will give you answers one way or another as quickly as possible. That I hope can bring a little relief in itself.
I had weeks of delays leading up to my scope and similar family history issue. It is not an easy time but my suggestion is use this week to do whatever lovely things you can think of that will make you smile.
As for the scope prep - i definitely found small and very frequent sips best on consumption of moviprep/picolax and consider having a low residue diet for a day or two beforehand as it helps natural reduce what's in your tank!
Good luck for Saturday
