Hi everyone
3 weeks ago my husband had some abdominal pain in his side which the doctor thought could be appendix or kidney stones so sent us to a&e. Well 24 hours later after tests and a ct scan we were being told he has a shadow in his bowel and shadow in his liver.
He then had a colonoscopy that confirmed a sizeable tumor in his sigmoid so they could not get the camera to look at the rest of the bowel.
we are down to have an MRI and Pet scan to look at his liver but I believe he has 3 tumors. We also have a meeting with the MDT team on Tuesday.
well our whole world has fallen apart it just does not seem real. My husband was absolutely fine with no signs he is 44 and fit and healthy.
yesterday I had to rush him to A&E as he could not walk and had the worst pains down his legs and had a temperature.
he is now on antibiotics and back home but they did not really explain what it is causing this pain and we need to wait till Tuesday.
this waiting is unbearable and we are both so scared. I am trying to be so strong for him and the kids but I already suffer from anxiety and I just cannot imagine my life without my soulmate. How can he deteriorate in 3 weeks I just cannot stop thinking the worst.
sorry for the long post I just needed to say hello.
thank you for reading
Hi Gonzo
Welcome , it’s hard to be here but glad you found us . Your family has had a tough time .
However bowel cancer that spreads to the liver can have a lot of different treatment options . My own mum was diagnosed 13 years ago and is still here !
They often like to treat it systemically with chemotherapy initially so they can treat not only the visible but the invisible disease . It also allows the opportunity for some shrinkage to be achieved where possible . Sometimes that opens up other options . My mum has had two liver resections . The last one removing 73% of her liver . Regenerated now and has remained clear and functions well .
You are all under considerable stress just now and hopefully once you get a consultation with the oncologist to formulate a plan you might start to feel as though it’s been tackled.
We are here to support you as you navigate this chapter in your life . There is still a lot of hope .

Hi ,
You might find this a helpful read . It goes through the various options the team have for stabilising the disease then hopefully adding other approaches as time goes on .
Most people do get a treatment plan so hold onto that .
