Hii was operated and had chemo 5 yrs ago but for the last 2 yrs I have had serious bowel movements constantly and pain, but my GP has not ordered the relevant colon cancer blood test. He puts it down to irritable bowel syndrome but I am pretty sure it's more serious. Its ruining my life as any form of food causes a reaction. Is there anything I can do
Hi Keith T
I can fully understand why you would want that checked out . I am absolutely sure there must be something you can do . Our helpline staff would be happy to guide you . 0808’808 0000.
It is disappointing your GP has taken that position given your history.
Take care ,

Thank you for your reply, I have also tried to get help via my colo/rectal nurse but she cannot help as the referral now has to come via the GP.
Hi,
I would defiantly get it checked out. I’m not here to say my situation would happen to everyone. But I’ve just been diagnosed with recurrent bowel cancer that I was originally treated for 10 years ago. If that wasn’t bad enough I’ve since found out from a radiologist consultant that there was a nodule showing in my pelvis in 2020 that no one bothered to tell me about.
I raised this with them at an oncology meeting as it’s doubled in size since then.
I’ve just received a letter from the consultant I raised this issue with and here is his response:It was discussed at the MDT meeting this morning 27th September on viewing the scan from 2020 on hindsight there may have been a tiny nodule within the area of the pelvis however, this is so small that it is not something that we would ever have expected attracted comment or been picked up at this time. As such we do not expect that it is anything that could have been picked up at this time.
My first point of reply is no matter how small any abnormalities should be pick up and passed on to the patient, Second it was something that should not have been there. Thirdly clearly they were wrong because it’s doubled in size since 2020 spread and now they can’t operate. I know I am where I am and I can’t let it consume me however, I do not accept this unbelievable explanation,
Cath
Thank you Cath,
Unfortunately there is a financial battle happening within the health service with GPs and consultants budgets.
We the public are usually the losers, I'm so sorry for you and hope things get sorted.
I have also lost 2 wives to cancer due to late diagnosis but to fight the NHS is difficult and doesn't help in the end
Hi, I’m so sorry to hear of your losses and the situation you are in.
I’ve got enough to fight at the moment and your right I won’t let this consume me. It just makes me angry and more determined to be my own advocate.
I might be stage 4 but I plan on staying here for the long hall.
Good luck to you hope you get things sorted,
Cath
