  • Hi JL

I was a fit and active 57 year old who started to find blood and mucous. I thought it was IBS but spoke with my GP. Had an Endoscopy, which showed two tumours and after biopsies, these were confirmed as cancer. Due to the site of the tumours, i had to have resection surgery and now have a permanent stoma ("Eddie").

Although, shocking and scary at diagnosis, I made sure I was as fit as I could be, and as pisitive as possible, amd I believe this has helped my recovery over the last 18months.I feel fit amd strong and have a very good life now with very few issues with "Eddie" (mainly my own vanity tbh)

With the support of your family, your surgical team amd this forum, you will get through this

    Keep strong and positive

  • Awww wow that’s incredible Eddie absolutely amazing I’m trying to stay as positive as I can it’s hard to take in the bad news but it’s a learning curve in life I’ll never ever take life for granted Heartfter this I just pray it doesn’t kill me as that’s my biggest fear HeartHeart

  • Hi  and welcome to the board. These first few weeks are a flurry of scans and meetings but once you have a plan in place then things will honestly feel a bit better.

Stay away from google - it can be out of date and downright scary in places. If, and it is an if at the moment, it is bowel cancer then there is a lot of treatment available. If you click on my name then you can read my treatment to date but I was diagnosed in 2016 and I’m currently cancer free

Please let us know how you get on and we’ll be happy to support you through any treatment if it does turn out to be cancer

    Take care

    1. Hi ya. My names Sharon. I know just how your feeling I to had a positive stool test. I was then booked to have a colonoscapy where they found a tumer in the lower part of the rectum. They took biopsy and I had scans and blood tests. I'm due to have surgery to remove it on the 17th October. I am really scared too. Try to stay strong and positive I know that's hard.

  • One of my mottos is "Whether you think you will, or whether you won't, you're probably right" theres no room in my life for negativity or doubt. The surgery saved my life, I choose to LIVE it!! I find stremgth im defiant and humorous poetry, some of which I've posted on here on differemt forums.

  • Hi Jessica_louise

I had a stage 3 tumour - recto-sigmoid - removed last March (2021), followed by chemo. There is a tiny bit in the liver which will be dealt with, but I'm now fighting fit (at 64), work out every morning, run with the dog each day, swim twice a week and live life to the full. It's devastating when you first get the news, but there has been so much progress with Cancer treatments, over the last twenty or so years, that survival is good overall. You're young and strong, stay positive, live each day and try not to think about the results until the two weeks is up.

The people on these chats are brilliantly supportive, so stay strong.

    Best wishes
