Hello all. I'm new on here. Hope I'm doing this right I'm not very good online.

  • Hi Averyrose

    Welcome.

Others will be along as well. I just wanted to say hello this is the best place to have advice and support from others that have been through the same. stay off Google I scared myself silly on there.
You can click on names to read their back stories.
I had a LAR August 21 with a stoma called whoopi and recently I’ve just been reversed.
Any thing I can help you with just ask

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the board. Have you got a treatment plan in place yet? It’s a shock to find out but bowel cancer is very treatable especially if caught early. If you click on peoples names then their profile page may show their treatment so far.

Im glad you’ve found us here and feel free to ask any questions - there’s nothing too daft or embarrassing on here

    Take care

  • Hi there. I saw the consultant on Thursday. Surgery is set for the 17th and there telling me I will need a bag for life. I'm so frightened. XXXX

  • Hi Averyrose

Its a lot to process , I’m sorry that you find yourself here but there’s lots of members that have been through the same operation.
just take some time to process it and turn the fear into fight that cancer

Having a bag is not as bad as I thought honestly I was frightened too

I got along really well with it. You can join the stoma support   They’re a friendly bunch and gave me the confidence to enjoy my life to the full. I ate out, travelled abroad wore all my usual clothes people didn’t know unless I told them.

Just be kind to yourself and keep chatting here if it helps x

  • Thank you thats very positive. I work in health care and have cared for people with stomas but having one is very different. Thank you again. XXXX

  • I know it’s a lot to adjust to. I had a few wobbles about it. I know mine was reversed however I signed for permanent. I had an ileostomy which I was tempted to keep.
    What op are you having?
    Take care x

  • Hi Averyrose

So pleased you had the courage to post even though you find online difficult.

I’ve found the forums really helpful and supportive. I hope you find the same.

I completely understand how you’re feeling about your recent diagnosis and planned operation. It brings up so many thoughts and emotions about what could happen now and in the future. Nobody wants to hear the news you’ve been given.  However, people have shared that life with a stoma can still be lived although life will be different to before.

Have you got people around supporting you in different ways?

Practical help is good but emotional and may be spiritual, would be good to have too.

People here have really helped me with sharing their experiences and words of encouragement.

    One day at a time.

Tell people how you feel, focus on your fight against cancer and beating it.

Please continue to share your journey, I haven’t got any answers but willing to be a traveler too.

  • Hi. They are going in through my tummy and from the bottom. I didn't really take much in think I was too shocked. My pain threshold is very low and I'm worried about pain. They asked if I had any questions but I couldn't think of any at the time. I have loads now. XXXX

  • Hi Artsie, can I ask how many weeks between getting your stoma and your reversal? Also how do you feel now that you’ve had it reversed. My stoma was done on September 12th and I’ve still not been outside! I’ve had a couple of leaks and I’m terrified it happens when I’m out x
