I thought I’d say “Hello” as I’m new to this group.

i was diagnosed with rectal cancer in July 22. Since then I’ve had a MRI, CT scans and the usual bloods taken.

i start a course of Chemoradiotherapy on 12 September. There’s more on my treatment plan but I’ll start there.

i’ve been told and agree to take one day at a time and not get ahead of myself as this can easily become overwhelming and lead to worry.

So pleased to have found this forum for support, encouragement and to share experiences.

I look forward to sharing our journey together.

  • Hi, I’m pretty new to the group as well. I’m trying to take each day at a time. I’ve had two ct scans and awaiting a biopsy 9th this month to establish if it’s a recurrence or new cancer. This is my second rodeo I was here 10 years ago. Never thought I would be back but here I am.

  • Hi  no welcome to the board. Yes it’s a good idea to break your treatment down into stages - it makes it more manageable and it’s assessed at the end of each stage so you might find yourself worrying about something that then doesn’t need to happen.

Chemoradiotherapy is the standard treatment for rectal tumours and can be very effective in shrinking the tumour - mine went from 4cm to 1cm. I tolerated it well but if you’ve any concerns then just post.

If you click on peoples names then their profile page may show their journey to date. Glad you’ve joined the gang and we’ll be happy to help and support you through this

    Take care

  • Hi Jeri29 I am in very similar situation had a diagnosis mid July had loads of scans etc will see Oncologist Thursday for final plan as it looks to of spread to one lymph Node but know I am having a couple of rounds of Chemoradio then an 'op to remove tumour and a Stoma bag. As mine is down as low as it can get. Good luck on the 12th think I will be 1or possibly 2weeks behind you. As you say take it one day at a time and remember that sometimes it may not seem like it but somewhere in the world there are people worse off than us. Cheers Dave

  • Hi, thanks for your message. Good to hear from you. Hope all goes well tomorrow and you find out more about your diagnosis.                         As you said life can take some unexpected turns.

  • Hi Jeri29

my mum was diagnosed with rectal cancer in July too. She had one CT and two MRI and going to have another one on the 27th for the liver to clarify a possible spread to liver. She had her stoma surgery last Friday and it seems to work fine. She is gonna start her chemo radiotherapy soon , probably before end of this month. Good luck and best wishes for your treatment.

    much love Heart️

  • Welcome  - such a scary time and hard to get your head around everything but I will say, make the most of being free from appointments and treatment - go party, holiday and do whatever you need to do to keep busy.  When your treatment starts you finally have control and can loose yourself in treatment.  I'm only on round 8 of 12 so also fairly new and I know I could not have got through those first weeks without people here.

Deffo click on peoples names as most have details of their stories - Also start your own - gives hope and also a story for you and others.  Also, you can message people too if you want - it's great to have extra support by messaging people without having to make public for all!

take care, keep talking and live life to the fullest.  Oh and drink loads of water haha!  Take care - we are all here for you

  • Thank you for replying, good to hear that your Mum’s surgery went well. It seems she is having treatment the other way round to me.

I hope her treatment goes well and you are able to access the support you need too.

Thanks for posting and your encouragement, it makes all the difference.
