Hi, I’m glad to have found this forum. I’ve been doing the regular bowel screening tests since I turned 60. Four years ago it was abnormal, and I had a small benign polyp removed. Two years ago it was clear. This one was abnormal, and after my endoscopy, the doctor who did the colonoscopy told me and my husband he had found an area that was almost certainly cancer.
I’m now awaiting a CT scan and will presumably meet with a specialist soon to discuss my treatment.
It’s certainly proof that these screening tests are important. I’m just numb and very frightened at the moment.
Hi Bebe Chin and a warm welcome to the board. Yes the screening is so important because bowel cancer is very treatable especially if caught early. These first few weeks after diagnosis are a whirlwind of scans, tests and meetings but once you have a treatment plan in place then things will honestly feel a bit better.
Please stay away from google - it can be scary and out of date - you can ask anything you like on here - there is nothing too daft or embarrassing and if you click on peoples names then their profile page may show their treatment to date.
Glad you’ve found us and we’ll be happy to help and support you through this
Take care
Karen x
Hi Bebe Chin had a diagnosis after colonoscopy 1 week before my 70 th birthday so about 5\6 weeks ago they move pretty fast now I have had MRI scan CT scan and today a PET CT scan seen the oncologist once and have a treatment plan ( radiochemo therapy for a few months then operation to remove main tumour and a Stoma). I know all The waiting is horrible and very scary I shed a few tears once or twice more because of not knowing for sure. but even though it's not a perfect outcome it's much better to know. This is a really good forum and you can ask anything someone will of been there and know the answer. Please try to keep your chin up. And best of luck for future.
