Hi all, I’ve been floating around a few days. I had a colonoscopy on 20th July which removed one 10mm polyps from a lovely clean looking area of my transverse but they also found a large mass which they have said is malignant tumour and took 8 biopsies. I had a CT scan on 25th and MRI on 27th. On 28th I flew away to Gran Canaria. I’ve got my appointment with a lower GI colorectal surgeon on this Wednesday- just hope my flight isn’t late as land around 1am.
I’ve had problems for a few months ( blood in stools then mire recently them ‘slimming down’ ) the Dr doing the colonoscopy said it could have been there for 4-5 years so I’m not expecting it to be great news on Wednesday.
anyway, that’s my story so far, I’m female, 55 with two older children 29 & 36 and three granddaughters 7,3 & 3 months.
I’ve been reading your stories and posts, especially in the middle of the night lol - always been a poor sleeper but worse now.
Hi, Treetops, and welcome. No one wants to be here, but we all muck in and support each other. This is the worst time, just waiting, you will feel better once the treatment ball gets rolling. Keep us updated, and it would help if you could update your bio,, saves keep retyping!!
Bowel cancer is very treatable nowadays, so not all doom and gloom. All the very best for Wednesday xx
Hi Treetops
Welcome to the forum . Glad you joined in .
The middle of the night can be such a lonely time !
Good on you for getting your holiday and I hope you were able to enjoy it .
Grandchildren are such a powerful motivator . There are many people with symptoms for a long time and it had not spread . My mum was a late diagnosis but is still here . Bowel cancer can have a lot of different approaches.
Hope the plane lands on time .
Take care ,

Thanks Court. I hope it does too. If not it will be straight to the hospital with the cases as a 10am appointment. I won’t have too much time to process as I’m going away with my mum on the Thursday for a week cruising.
hiw does everyone tell their nearest and dearest? My husband and my best friends know and that’s it so far. Do mist people wait for a treatment plan? Any advice on this minefield appreciated although I guess everyone is different. X
You should get most of the information when you return and have a rough plan on the next step minus the timescales for starting treatment . I think that would probably give you enough information to answer their questions plus give some direction to go forward .
There is a booklet I think . Kareno62 might remember it’s name .

Hi Treetops and a warm welcome to the board from me too. Your symptoms sound very similar to mine and I only went to the doctor as I knew things would get even ‘looser’ on holiday. Had a colonoscopy when I came back and was found to have a 4cm rectal tumour. If you click on my name then you can see my profile.
That was back in 2016 and I’ve had no evidence of the cancer in any of my check ups since.
Bowel cancer is notoriously slow growing but very treatable. Stay away from google - it’s out of date and downright scary in places - you can read other posts and ask anything you like on here. Hopefully on Wednesday they will have all your scan results back and will have a treatment plan in place for you. I was told at my meeting that they were treating me with a ‘view to cure’ so I was able to tell people that when breaking the news.
Ive attached a link below to the booklet that I was given at my first meeting which might give you a heads up about what to expect

Please let us know how you get on
Take care

Thank you for that link Karen, really informative. As you say about google, that was my first stop but since finding this and Bowel Cancer Uk I’ve stopped googling as was quite depressing! Definitely going to point my family away from outdated statistics.
