Hi, I have joined the on line macmillan community today, not sure how it all works.
I was diagnosed on Thursday with bowel cancer so am about to start my journey
Hi, I posted on here a few days ago and at that time felt chilled about it. I had an appt with a Sister for Macmillan yesterday and like you, have bowel cancer which has also travelled to my left lung. I don't quite know how I'm feeling now because it keeps changing on a daily basis. As yet I'm not sure what the next steps will be but she said it may be that the hospital will shrink it with chemo, then operate to remove it. I just don't know. How did you deal with the news yourself and I would love to know how you get on. I am 63 with three children and six grandchildren x
Hi Countrygirl
Welcome.
If you have any questions ,worries concerns put them up and someone will pop up.
I joined two months after my operation and really wish that I had joined before as I found it so stressful the waiting for tests, results and diagnosis. It actually wasn’t that long but I was very frightened and terrified myself by looking at Google
So stay away from Google
You can click on peoples names to read their back story. There’s a lovely group of people here that I’ve had lots of support from and I’m sure you will too
Any questions ask away I had a LAR last August if I can help I will?
Take care
Ann
Hi JVK. I found out on Thursday and took it quiet calmly, I have to go for a ct scan so my treatment is still in the very early stages, and I hope to find out next week what the next step is.
I am 64 and dont really have much family, my niece and nephew live in New Zealand I have not yet let them know as I dont want to worry them. Thank you so much for your reply x
Hello Artsie Ann
Thank you for your reply, I took a quick look on google and decided never to look again.
I am waiting to go for a ct scan which I hope will be next week. I was quiet calm when I first found out but now feel quiet sad there is so much in my life I still want to do, I am 64 and recently retired
Hi Countrygirl
Welcome to the forum . I am so sorry you have to deal with this at the start of your retirement but hopefully with the right support you will get that back on track .
Bowel cancer caught early has lots of treatment options . Even a late stage diagnosis is often treatable like my mum was . She is still here 13 years later . It has had a lot of research and money invested into it being one of the larger primaries.
Once you have more information it will give you some structure to go forward with .
Take care ,

Well everyone on here is so helpful and I am also at the beginning of my journey. Yesterday I had a wobble so decided to start my own private journal and sat for hours last night ranting!.....using expletives and all sorts. I cannot tell you how much it helped me. I met with a Macmillan Sister last week and she is also at the end of the phone for me. I took my Daughter with me but for some odd reason told her that I don't want to know the ins and outs and just want to fight and that's it. I'm waiting for appointments etc and will keep everyone e up to date. Keep fighting is my mantra if the day. Lots of hugs to you.....Jan
