Hi
my mum did a colonoscopy day before yesterday and the doctor confirmed it’s cancer without biopsy. Biopsy result gonna be in two days. Also we need to await for ct scan to confirm the stage. The colonoscopy says there was a malignant looking mass in the rectrum and the rectrum at 0 cm from the anus. The proximal margin was at 7 cm. The distal margin was at 0cm. What does this mean? Does it mean the tumour size is 7cm? Please anyone help.
Hi Hopeallok. That’s a bit too technical for me. Have you tried ringing the support desk on the number below? I would just like to add that size does not matter! The size of the tumour does not define the stage of the tumour - it depends on how far the tumour has grown into the bowel wall and whether there has been any spread to other organs
Take care

Hi ,
I actually tried to reply last night . Our helpline staff would help you with the medical language on the report as I don’t think it’s as straight forward as being 7cm . Surgeons speak in terms of margins and there is a few of them , distal , proximal etc . It could actually be a location description.
They also describe the location and visual aspects in reports so I would not assume that’s a measurement in terms of size it could be a location .
take care ,
