I was diagnosed with rectal cancer a month ago don't start treatment till end of month just wondering if there is anything I can take for pain and bloating specially through the nights thanks
Hi Les61. It’s difficult to comment without knowing what’s causing the pain and bloating. Could you ring your Colorectal Support Nurse? I was just going to send you the link for the Ask an Expert page in here but I can see you’ve posted there already. It could be worry and anxiety - mine gurgles away if I’m stressed - or it might be worth keeping a food diary to see if there is anything triggering your symptoms?
Take care

Hi Les61
I had the same before my operation. It was difficult to eat any food so my energy levels were zero. I was asked to exercise which floored me. It was only pelvic ones.
Then my hubby bought me two protein drinks / meal supplements a day. I used to have three small meals and two meal supplements a day this didn’t caused me to be in the toilet struggling. My body could process it and I felt more comfortable
I was nearly at the blocking stage so I’m not sure if it’s relevant to you.
We are all individual so this may not be for you. It really helped me to feel better prepared for my operation
Hope you feel more comfortable soon
Ann
Hope the drinks give you some energy. You shouldn’t be in agony. I had pain or discomfort and discharge. I phoned my team. They were really supportive and gave me great advice. Give them a ring for reassurance. They may want to see you or be able to give advice that may help
I was terrified too. It’s really frightening I think I made the pain worse as I was so tense.
Please ring your nurse that’s why they’re there and know your case and what symptoms are expected
Once the treatment starts you will feel like you’re proactive in getting that thing in the bin.
What op are you having?
I didn’t contact my GP I was picked up by the bowel screening and stuck with them. My GP didn’t know anything about it til after op. They treated me for piles!
