Hi, I’m new to this forum.
I was diagnosed 2 days ago with cancer of the sigmoid colon . My GP’s receptionist accidentally revealed the biopsy results to me not knowing that I had not been informed of the results. I’m yet to see my consultant to see what treatment will be offered to me.
i’m trying to stay as strong and positive as I possibly can, but I’m finding it difficult. I’m scared.
I had my colonoscopy almost 2 weeks ago, I found the procedure far more painful than I had prepared myself for. 2 days after the colonoscopy I started getting backache, this is not subsiding even with painkillers. Anyone else experienced this?
thank you for taking the time to read my post.
Hi Mamma B
What a terrible way to be told the results of your colonoscopy. You must be in shock
I suspected cancer but I wasn’t told definitely until my surgeons consult along with the treatment plan. It took the sting out of it a little
You are at the worst time it’s so worrying not knowing what can be done Please stay away from Google it’s not a good place to get info here is much better from people that have been through it
I had the sedative for my colonoscopy and I didn’t have discomfort from that. Later I had an endoscopy and that was uncomfortable. To be honest I had a pain in my rib but that was there before my colonoscopy. Before my operation when I had pains I was convinced I had cancer everywhere my mind was in panic mode .
I had a CT scan and MRI before the MDT decided on my treatment plan
Theres amazing treatments for Bowel cancer and now that you’ve been diagnosed they will decide on a treatment plan for you
Take care
Ann
Hi ,
You might want to get your GP to check that out or email the unit that did your test .
You would want to make sure there is no infection etc . Everyone here worries it’s pain from a spread so you are in good company . My mum has had spread to a few organs ( doing great ) but no pain in any of them . But sometimes it’s from something different that still needs attention too especially if pain killers are not helping .
Our helpline nurses would be happy to chat on 0808 808 0000 or you could run it past the nhs on nhs 111 . It can only help to get on top of the pain .
So sorry you got told that way but I can only assure you , we are here to support and share . Bowel cancer is very treatable .
We are here for you ,

Hi Court.
Thank you for your response and supportive message.
I did end up last night seeking medical help. Was given a through examination of all areas. Nothing untoward was found relating to any organs eg no swelling of the liver etc and no sign of infection. However my BP was sky high. Dr thinks my symptoms could be stress related, which he said was absolutely understandable in a situation like this. He took the time to talk to me as an individual and reassured me that what I’m experiencing is very normal. He set me on a painkiller & sleep plan and my GP will be informed and conduct a follow up in a few days time.
for the first time since the awful diagnosis I slept last night and woke up in less pain/ stress. So here’s to looking forward.
Thank you again for your support.
