Hi,
I was diagnosed with caecal cancer after a colonoscopy in April. It took 10 weeks from the abnormal bowel screen to get surgery, which I was initially told was likely to cure me. Now, at the follow-up 4 weeks later I'm told that the cancer is stage 3 as it was close to the bowel wall and there is evidence of it in the tiny blood vessels around the bowel, although all 31 removed lymph nodes were clear. I'm now waiting to see an oncologist re adjuvant chemo.
I'm terrified by the whole thing, because while I wait yet more weeks (will be 6 weeks post-op when I see the oncologist) for treatment, who knows what is still floating about in my system? I just feel that I'm always at the back of the queue and that the longer they keep me waiting, the worse my prognosis will be.
Hi
Sorry to hear the cancer was more advanced than you had hoped! Ihad a stage 3 cancer 15 years ago and had chemo after the same surgery as you. Like you I saw the oncologist six weeks after surgery and chemo started soon after. Your body needs time to recover so six weeks post op is usually the timescale.
The cancer has been removed so that’s a big positive! Now it’s a mop up for any stray cells! Chemo is very effective and in my case meant no recurrence! I remember it was a blow when I was told I needed chemo but I just thought of it as the next stage in my recovery!
Good luck!
Jac
That's very encouraging. I hope my chemo is as effective as yours. Stay healthy xx
Hi, I had dukes b cancer, and adjuvant chemo. I held the tablet citabaine in my hand was terrified. But swalled it and apart from hands and feet red raw I worked as a chef in a kitchen seven hours a day on my feet. Had chemo for five months. It did the job, in cancer free and very pleased to be. My main symptom at the start of my cancer was horrendous back pain. Nowhere on any info does it say this can happen. But, it should be noted.
