On 6th June I was diagnosed with Stage 3/4 bowel cancer.

Last Wed I had another MRI to take a closer look at the lesions on my liver. If they are mets the plan is an op to insert a stent into my bowel, then chemo, then an op to remove the tumour. If my liver is ok, it's the main op, then probably chemo as the lymph nodes are enlarged - they will remove them during the op & test them.

I am seeing my consultant on Monday morning for the results of the MRI. I'm writing a list of questions to ask him - please can anyone offer advice about the questions I need to ask?

Thank you.

  • Hi Daisy D

You sound really well organised and thinking of questions is a brilliant way to prepare for your consultation

I wrote down everything from shopping to surgeon question and if something popped into my head I wrote that down too

Then I organised it from shopping to consult questions

It worked for me  the funny thing is when we got there me clutching my bag with said questions my surgeon talked for thirty minutes

As the questions popped into my head he had told me  before I had chance to ask. He was led by me.  I didn’t want to know the scientific results I just wanted it gone

What do you want to get from this appointment and how can you prepare for the treatment?

Hopefully this helps Good luck Monday

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the board from me. I had to have an MRI on my liver too but it turned out to be a harmless cyst called a haemangioma - apparently they are very common and you can go through life being totally unaware of them unless you have this sort of scan.

Ive attached a link to the booklet that I was given at my first appointment which also has some examples of questions that you might want to ask

Hope the meeting goes well - bowel cancer is very treatable and we’ll be happy to help you through this

    Take care
