Bowel Screening

Hello,

My husband, 68 fit as a flea has just had an abnormal result for his biannual national screening test. He is booked for a colonoscopy on June 9th. I am sick with worry, he has never had any symptoms so hoping this doesn’t mean anything. I lost my sister last year to bowel cancer, also picked up on screening in 2020.

  • Hi . Only 1 in 10 colonoscopies result in a bowel cancer diagnosis but it’s best to get checked out to find what’s causing the abnormal result. The waiting for the next step is hard but all you can do is try to keep busy and let us know how he gets on?

    Take care

  • Easier said than done but one day at a time. I had all of the symptoms and yet.no marker or fit.test.or colonoscopy showed  anything until Years later when a ileosxope showed everything. Very unfortunate but that's my unique.story i hope.

  • Hi there

I was picked up with the routine test. It’s amazing that they’re so quick. Whatever the outcome the system really works.

Try not to worry. There’s not many that need further treatment

Those that do, the treatment is pretty amazing
