Hi,
In early January 2022 I was sent my 2 yearly bowel screening kit, although it was 6 months late due to COVID. Long story short I had a positive result from the test and 6 weeks later was in hospital having an extended right hemi-colectomy to remove the tumour. I have now started chemotherapy to reduce the risk of spread and have completed the first cycle, second one starts tomorrow. All good so far. This really highlights how important it is to take these tests.
One thing I am finding confusing though is conflicting information regarding diet, in particular red and processed meats. Does anyone have any guidance on this?
Hi Cale254
I have linked in the NHS guidelines. Sometimes the whole food aspects confuses me . I added more veg then questioned the pesticides so I added more fish and the plastic aspect came up . The other factor around meat was charcoal which I think is more applicable to countries where the BBQ for several months . Certainly here in Scotland the one or two a year is not too big an issue but if you were doing it every week !
The information link is quite good as it gives you amounts and substitutes.
Hope your second chemo goes smoothly . My mum was picked up on a bowel screen too.
Take care ,

Hi Cale254,
No problems - so before I had my bowel resection surgery I started doing research into products that help you recover, but that are not full of artificial, processed ingredients and the one that kept being brought up was Juice Plus.
The benefits I have seen by using their products is incredible, post surgery I discussed the products with my consultants and he agreed that they are all naturally based, plant based products. So what I have done is completely changed my lifestyle and way of living. I have a shake for breakfast, overnights oats for lunch and then either anther shake or white meat meal for dinner.
My stomach feel so much better, my scars are healing and the consultants and nurses can believe how well I have recovered.
