Hello everyone thanks for allowing me to join. As of yet I haven't been diagnosed with cancer. 14 years ago I suffered a 3/4th degree tear during childbirth. I suffered bowel incontinence, and had surgery which included a stoma that I had for 12 months. Over the last 14 years I have always had issues with my bowels, and would take immodium daily which helped me to have some control. More recently my symptoms have gotten worse, with immodium not really helping. IV lost weight, don't feel hungry, and although I can't say I have definitely saw blood I would say my stools do look a red colour with some mucas. I'm worried about going to the GP, as I feel they will say the usual , it's IBS, or it's just the way your bowels are. Any advice would be good, thank you

  • Hi . I think you need to go see your doctor and ask for your symptoms to be investigated. Please don’t think I’m assuming you have cancer - there are lots of conditions that have similar symptoms like crohns, colitis, ibs - but it’s obviously worrying you so better to get things checked out. Hopefully your doctor will suggest bloods and a colonoscopy - only 1 in 10 colonoscopies result in a cancer diagnosis - but it’s a good way of getting to the cause of your issues.
I’ve attached a link to a sheet produced by the bowel cancer uk site which you might like to have a look at before your appointment?

Please let us know how you get on?

    Take care
