So far this is what’s happened to my hubby who is 57
Thursday noticed maroon blood on the toilet paper after wiping himself after a number two ( looked like a reasonable amount but could just be that it spread easily ) if he hadn’t have wiped he wouldn’t have realised he was bleeding
Friday - same again , phoned the dr to explain to him what was happening , shortly after he had very bloody diarrhoea ( personally I think this was a reaction to what’s going on )
Saturday - maroon ish colour poo and more maroon blood in the toilet
he is doing a fit test on Monday and got a drs appointment.
no pain, no loss of weight , no other symptoms
as you can imagine our minds have gone into overdrive
I have looked up everything including diverticulitis bleeding which fits the bill but obviously I’m thinking the worse he’s thinking stomach ulcer ?
Hi Worried03
Please stay away from Dr Google it’s a minefield of anxiety and needless worrying
There are many non cancer reasons for bleeding and once your husband has the results then you will know what’s causing the problems
If they do want to have a further investigation then that still doesn’t necessarily mean cancer.
I know it’s really worrying and the before is the worst part.
Four members of my family were called in for a colonoscopy before me. All had reasons for their blood in their poo.
I am the only one that was diagnosed and I was treated quickly.
So even if it’s cancer it’s very treatable
Hope all goes well
Ann
Yes it’s very worrying and thankfully you’ve done all the right things.
You can phone the MacMillan team here they’re wonderful and medically trained.
My husband had a similar problem and eventually was diagnosed firstly with IBS then later diverticulitis
Its very frightening and an anxious time. I was in a right pickle before I got the results so I understand completely . I’m sorry you’re going through this.
Sending you a virtual hug
Ann
Thank you x
would the mcmillion nurses speak to us seeing as we haven’t had a diagnosis ?
the waiting is definitely the worst especially when you don’t know how long you’re going to have to wait , I have no patience lol
can I ask what symptoms your husband has and what the treatment was ?
I think if you’re anxious about your husband it’s worth giving them a ring. I’ve found them really helpful.
My hubby was diagnosed with IBS which was amoprazole and food he could tolerate. Which wasn’t easy he had reactions to various things. It went on for months. There seemed to be a trigger point when he had picked up the Noro virus in Ibiza. The one thing that worked was having a yogurt that was the one thing he could eat. Then he had a colonoscopy and diarrhoea and blood. They then diagnosed diverticulosis with polyps which they removed and he was adviced to have a high fibre diet. This wasn’t tolerated. Now he eats plain and goes back to the yogurt.
He’s suffered for years and has boughts of reacting to food.
Take care
Ann
Had the drs appointment ( although it was a nurse ) he had taken a photo of the colour of the blood which he showed her ) she said she can't guarantee it's something serious but there are no red flag symptons which is good . Hes had to send a sample off which will take up to 2 weeks to come back which will tell us more . She said it could be a digestive infection but who knows x
How do you feel about that?
I think it doesn’t sound very reassuring!
However maybe if it’s an infection and samples are gone for tests they should be able to scribe the right antibiotics
At least you can think know the fit test can rule out certain things
Tale care
Ann
