I have been diagnosed with bowel cancer,

I think it would be best if I lose a stone in weight.

is there a diet that’s best for people with cancer.?

are there foods that help ones battle against cancer.?

and are there foods that cancer thrive on ?

  • Hi there Jocar

What foods are best for you? The reason I ask is before my treatment i needed to eat high protein small four meals a day with two Complan drinks as meal substitutes to build myself up for my op I had rectal nearly blocking stage So it’s really important that you eat food you can tolerate firstly. Then if you’re fine with everything eat really healthy foods and exercise.
I don’t know if there’s foods good for people with cancer we are individual but healthy energy food for you is important plus you have to like it. But definitely no junk foods

    Thank you Artsie Ann,

For me personally I have plus points and bad points.

    • I have Bowel Cancer
    • i was taken to theatre Feb 4th but operation didn’t happen
    • They stopped and decided surgery wasn’t for me. even drew on me and put me out….
    • instead I have been put on a trial, TEMS (star trec) They must have been confident I’d agree to it and stopped op.
    • Next Monday is the final meeting before the full treatment starts.
    • I have no symptoms for said cancer that I know of.
    • I can’t take the bullet points off Speak no evilJoy Sorry.
    • They found my cancer via MRI & CT on my back.
    • A degenerative disk disease was diagnosed. Making exercise at present out of the question.
    • My inactivity is the cause of my weight gain Pensive

That’s an odd post , sorry I couldn’t take the bullet points off .

    best regards

    Jocar

    Before Cancer

    Before Lockdown

My exercise routine for past 15 years’ish

10 x 10k charity runs per year. Inc a couple of half marathons.

Nuffield gym five days per week.

A member of a cycle club and the weekend before my back troubles we cycled to Wetherby and back , ( 68 miles )

I’ve done Tough Mudders … (muddy obstacle race)

and was training for my first triathlon.

Not bad or daft for someone in the their mid sixties Speak no evilJoy

Covid has a lot to answer for in my opinion.  Even though I’ve not had covid it seems to have destroyed my life completely .No trainingPensive  Painful backPensive and now CANCER Sob

    Depressed isn’t a strong enough word for what’s it’s done to me…..

  • I feel for you. Covid has really changed our freedom and made us so isolated.
You sound as if you had an amazing fitness routine and if you are feeling okay it would be really beneficial to exercise again. When I had injured my back I found spinal exercises on YouTube really helpful.
I didn’t loose a pound before my operation in fact I put weight on through the bloating caused by the tumour
I lost two stone afterwards. It’s slowly going on now but my diet is ruled by my Ileostomy

    Be kind to yourself

    Take care

    Morning

Just wondered if this might be of interest to you as you can ask a nurse for some input .
You also might like to ask your team for input regarding the aim of your diet as some people are told to follow a low fibre diet etc . Your specialist nurse should have information sheets similar to this nhs one . You can see it’s written to different needs so it’s important to know what they want you to achieve .

You have had a tough time . You sounded so fit and I totally agree I think general mobility has been another victim of covid for a lot of people . Despite taking every opportunity to walk when allowed there was less transferring in / out of cars etc , daily routines were often more sedentary. The collective impact of that has been swept under the carpet and I had to work hard with my own mum to get her back up to speed .

This is an example of one health authority. You should be given directions from your own .

    take care ,

    Hi Artsie,

the real reason I want to diet is purely and simply to lose weight.

preferably before my treatments get to surgery.

I just think a stone lighter I’d be able to copy with what ever is thrown a me better.

  • Sounds like a positive step and if it makes you feel better it will be all for the good. As you don’t have any reaction or symptoms with your cancer then the good old Weight Watchers or Slimming World are proven diets Swimming too is great to help your back if you’re able

Your treatment sounds really interesting  so much better to avoid surgery if you can with your back

    A big week from Monday,

Monday meeting with surgeon and cancer team to work out an itinerary Im guessing. Radiotherapy at Jimmy’s  and chemotherapy (via pills) then in to surgery in about eight weeks they say. (The Star Trec trial)

Had face to face (that was a novelty Speak no evilJoy) with  GP yesterday and he’s setting up physio or something like that for the next few weeks on my back….

I said as the surgery 4th Feb didn’t happen why can’t we start with my back? He agreed Thumbsup

    onwards and upwards guys!

Anyone want to fight their battle along with me, feel free to message.

  • That’s really good. Things are moving forward.
