Hello all
I’ve just joined . So thank you for allowing me to join .
I was recently diagnosed with colon cancer.
so much jargon to get my head round & remembering all that’s said to me . I lip read which is in itself challenging, re masks . Anyway my surgery is next week .
take care all x
Hi Janglejonesand a warm welcome to the board. Good to hear that you haven’t long to wait for surgery and you can get the tumour in the bin. I’ve attached a couple of booklets - 1 is good for the jargon and starting out and the other covers the operation

We’re all at different stages of treatment and recovery so feel free to ask if there’s anything you’re worried about?
There is also an online chat facility if you want to talk to any of the Macmillan support team. If you scroll down the page and click on Cancer information and support, then scroll down again and it’s under How we can Help.
Take care

Hello Janglejones,
Just wanted to welcome you to the board too, so sorry you find yourself here, but pleased you’ve found us.
Karen has given you some useful links (I second that she is amazing). Feel free to ask anything.
If you click on the icon at the side of the person’s name you can read their bio – everyone is at different stages of their journey. There is so much support and advice on here and always someone around to answer questions who have been there done that.
Good to hear your surgery is happening soon, wishing you a speedy recovery. Do keep posting and let us know how you are doing.
Take Care,
Net77 x
Thank you Artsie& Net & Karen for your kindness. I guess it’s a natural feeling of apprehension days before surgery & not knowing the outcome . Take it day by day . All the best to you all xx
You are welcome Janglejones.
We have been there and it’s really frightening, my mind was all over the place I found it so difficult and I struggled with processing what I was being told. I really hope that they were not wearing masks at the time enabling you to lip read or that you had someone with you to write it down or sign.
Try and put it to the back of your mind I trained myself to do that though it’s really not usually in my character I’m usually a worrier. Somehow I did it.
My mindset was something an elderly lady said to me years ago
Is there anything I can do? NO
Then don’t worry,
At the time she told me that it made no sense to me.
Then with my procedures and diagnosis I realised. I’d done all I could, the medics would tell me what I could do and what they would do. They’re the experts.
Hope you’re okay sending you a hug
Ann
