Hi all,

I have just arrived home after having a tumour removed from my bowel. I too had a colonoscopy and an MRI scan after producing a sample for investigation. I was told after the colonoscopy that there was definitely a tumour in my bowel, approx 3cm / 1.25”. The tumour was very treatable and I have just returned from hospital to recover. The operation was approx 1.5 hours, and no complications which put my mind at ease. After listening to many people’s experiences with the same diagnosis as myself, I am very confident that hopefully this will be the end of my brushing with this frightening disease.

  • Hi Ross and good to read that you’re safely through the op and sound to be recovering well. It’s great to read such a positive post about your experience and Thankyou for sharing it with everyone. Hopefully, as you say, this will be the end of your treatment.

    Take care

  • My tumour of 5cm...in Bowel...Resulted in a left Hemicolectomy - which took at least 7 hours for keyhole surgery. You are very fortunate that your Op. was so short.

Wishing you all the best for your recovery.

    Hi Ross,

This time next week i will have had a 3.5 CM tumour removed and I am hoping for the same result. Are you on a temporary stoma? I am not sure about that but advised I will have a temp one but possibly lifetime depending on how it goes. My tumour is at the join of the Rectum and the Bowel so all depends on weather a join is possible. How long were you in hospital for? I have been advised 4 or 5 days so no idea really.

    Good luck for the future.

    Hi Bink

my operation was slightly more than keyhole. The surgeon made me aware that he likes to be a little more thorough and advised me that the scar might be approx 1” above and below the tummy button. Ha has done a fantastic job for me. No stoma required which I’m obviously happy about. I was in hospital for 5 days.

  • It all depends on the circumstances. After keyhole surgery, I was out of Hospital after 3 days. I get the sense that the norm is 3 - 5 days stay.

    Many best wishes

I have been told, as i said, 4 or 5 days but with my Op on Friday there is the weekend when not a lot happens. I have been told the Stoma nurses dont work weekends??

Do i have to sort sharps boxes etc or do they do that for me ? I am due back on Wednesday, 2 days before the Op for Blood and to be marked up for the Op so i guess I will ask then

    Best wishes

I’m not 100% sure to be honest Bink. I’m just hoping that you won’t need a stoma. However, as long as your well, it isn’t the end of the world. My surgeon asked me, Am I ok with a slightly larger scar if it can make the procedure more successful.

it was a no brainier to me.

I agree, as long as i am well. The surgeon said It may be reversible but may not be what did i want so i opted for reversible if at all possible. At the end of the day i said do what you have to do as long as i am free of this. We will see.

I will let you all know.

    Take care
