Hi. I have recently been diagnosed, finding things quite overwhelming. Had a call yesterday and my surgery is scheduled for the 21st.
Welcome Jellytot23 . I will leave others to support you with the treatment aspects as it’s more relevant that way but wanted to reach out and reassure you many people here understand the stage you are at and will support you as you move through surgery and adjust to bring home again . They are a great bunch .
Is it a colon cancer or a rectal cancer ? Just do people can share their experiences.
Take care ,

Oh so sorry to hear about your diagnosis and welcome. It can be quite overwhelming and scary but you will find people here who can give advice and comfort. It’s great you’re getting surgery soon - you may have lots of questions and concerns and if you do feel free to ask. My husband was diagnosed about 18 months ago and had a colon resection (removing about half of his colon where there was a large tumor) soon after. We were very worried but the surgery went well and his eating and digestion were soon back to normal. There are as many stories and outcomes as there are people, but there is good reason to hope. Also feel free to call the Macmillan nurses - my husband did that early on and they were amazing.
Hi Jellytot23and a warm welcome from me too. Yes it’s a lot to take in but surgery is the best way of getting rid of the tumour for good and you will be well looked after in hospital. Ive attached a link to a booklet about the operation and it has some good advice on things to take with you like a long charging cable.

Please post if there’s anything that you’re worried about and we’ll be happy to help

Thank you so much. I think everything is just starting to become real. Until now I was feeling like it was happening to someone else. It’s nice to just speak to people who understand what it is your feeling.
Thank you Karen I will have a look at that link. It’s just nice to know there are other people experiencing the same things as me.

And how are you now? Did your surgery go well? I am going to be having the same surgery as you.
. Yes we’re all at different stages of treatment/recovery. If you click on people’s names then their profile page may show their treatment so far. I totally remember thinking that it wasn’t really happening to me so sort of stuck my head in the sand and just got on with whatever they gave me. It can be tough at times but doable.
I had a Low Anterior Resection with temporary stoma in Nov 16, follow up chemo in 2017 then stoma reversed in March 2018. Ive just celebrated my 5 year anniversary of NED (no evidence of disease)
Take care

I had Lower Anterior Resection for rectal cancer. I’ve never been better thank you. It’s such a relief to get that tumour out. What op are you having.
