I'm new here.
Abdominal cramps change in bowel habits and a FIT test result resulted in a colonoscopy.
I was diagnosed with bowel cancer in November. As a result of further tests I have now found out I have thyroid cancer too.
Radiographer said it is probably 2 separate tumours rather than one being secondary. I wondered if anyone else has had this?
Both tumours are apparently removable. But I'm worrying about the operations and joined this group to hear more from others about what to expect.
Thank you for reading.
Hi Nej2021
I thought I replied to you but it has not shown up . So a big welcome from me !
So sorry you have two surgeries to face . I have heard the same that two operable tumours are better to treat than one primary that spreads . However it’s still a lot to process !
Can I ask what area the bowel tumour is in ? Rectal or colon ? My mum had a colon tumour . Right side ascending . They were able to operate and reconnect her colon . Once her bowel started to work again she made great progress and has had no real difficulty with it ever since .
Colon cancer has a slightly different protocol than rectal cancer so would be happy to tag people in to respond once I know which area is involved .
People are wonderful at supporting and answering questions here . They will answer anything that concerns you .
Its a lot for you to process but the good aspect , bowel cancer is very treatable and lots of people are safely through surgery .
Take care ,

Thank you for the welcome.
The bowel tumour is 15cm from the anal verge so is just inside the colon. They have said it should be a case of removing the affected section and reattaching with no stoma needed.
The thyroid was a bit of a shock as I had had no symptoms from that.
The team meet on Thursday so I am hoping I'll know more soon.
All the best Jenny

There’s so many members here to help with any worries that you have you definitely have found a good place. I’m slightly different in mine was Rectal Cancer treated by Lower Anterior Resection August 4th.
