Hello, i am new on this forum. I am a family man aged 60, lawyer by profession. I was diagnosed with rectal cancer in 2019 was given radiotherapy and chemotherapy with 90% response. I refused surgery due to complications. Reoccurrence  in 2020. scan recently showed rectum collapse. Last month had increased frequency of bowel movement which i put down to IBS which was not the case. This is due to the rectum prolapse and making life difficult been house bound cancelled travel plans. Can anyone offer any advice how to manage long term. GP prescribed stool softener thats it no solution offered.

  • Hi

Welcome , although that sounds difficult to manage long term . Have to say I don’t see this coming up too often .

This member had surgery for a rectal prolapse so you might like to contact them .

Are you considering a surgical solution ?

Thank you for your message reply. Surgery is complicated so looking for other solutions to push rectum back in place or a solutions so it could be managed.

  • I understand . I wondered if that was what you wished . I did read some NHS leaflets on teaching people how to push it back themselves so hopefully someone will have experience.

Thank you. Can you not get proffession help to push it back as currently just started so i am doing basic exercise etc.

  • I honestly don’t know much about it but it seems to suggest a Dr can do that .

Has your GP referred you to a specialist or examined you ?  I am not sure which dr would be best to do it but your GP should certainly know .
