Hi everyone, I was diagnosed with bowel cancer on Friday following a colonoscopy. This was picked up by the bowel screening programme. Now waiting for a date for scans and then surgery, worried about delays due to Covid.
Hi, Joll, you've come to the right place. This is the scary time, it gets easier believe me! The scans are important as they will indicate your next steps, and hopefully you won't get delayed by the holidays or covid. Ask anything you want on here, someone will usually have the answer, and the helpline is open as well.
Take care, ((hugs))
Hi Joll and a warm welcome from me too. The waiting for scans and results is very stressful but once you have a plan in place then things will honestly feel a bit better. Please stay away from google - it can be scary and out of date - you can ask anything you like on here - there is nothing too daft or embarrassing.
Bowel cancer is notoriously slow growing but very treatable. You may have treatment before surgery or go straight to surgery depending on where the tumour is. I had chemoradiotherapy in the summer of 2016 then surgery at the end of November 2016 which is normal for a rectal tumour so please don’t stress too much about when your surgery will be - the consultants will plan your treatment once they have all your test results back.
Please keep posting and we’ll be happy to help and support you through this
Take care

Hi Joll
When I had my Colonoscopy after being picked up by bowel screening like you. After the procedure I was taken to a room my husband was there and a nurse Anneka. She gave me her number and said to call. Which I did when I needed support. My scans were booked by the dr who did the colonoscopy then I was contacted by Endoscopy and given another contact. Once I saw the surgeon a nurse Lias was present. I had her to contact. They discussed my case and others in Fridays I felt like I was in a protective blanket and the communication between my results and next steps all found the correct treatment for my cancer. I asked about Covid delays and Lisa said they’d worked right through. So I’m hopeful you will get your scans and preps done within the time.keeping my fingers crossed for you. This Covids a nightmare.

That’s really great news. The NHS are amazing with the treatment of Bowel cancer. I hope you can enjoy some Christmas treats. Try not to think to much about it. The waiting is the worst part. I used meditation apps for head space. A little exercise and preparing my bag for hospital. That included some retail therapy.
