Hello,

My wife had a biopsy 2 weeks ago. The MDT meeting to discuss the results was yesterday. She received a phone call this morning asking her to attend a clinic appointment tomorrow morning. Is this a usual practice to have an appointment so soon after the MDT meeting? She is now convinced it is going to be terrible news and that this is why the appointment is so soon.

Any advice on past experiences would be very gratefully received.

thanks

  • Hi . Not sure if you meant to post this on the bowel cancer board? If not you could copy and paste it onto the breast cancer one? Anyway from my experience with bowel cancer, the MDT meets once a week so if your results aren’t back by then, then it might have to wait until the next meeting? It might be that your wife was provisionally booked in for tomorrow but they’d not told her in case the results weren’t back in time! The ‘good’ news is that the results are back, they’ve been discussed and by tomorrow lunchtime you will have a idea of what lies ahead

    Hope the meeting goes well

    Take care

  • Hi ,

I don't have any knowledge of breast cancer services, but I do know it is common for a clinical appointment to be within a few days of the MDT meeting.

I think the NHS guidelines state that any patient suspected to have cancer should be on a 2 week pathway. So it may well be the hospital trying to stick within those guidelines as I know a lot of NHS trusts have even criticised recently for missing targets re: waiting times for cancer patients.

    Hope it goes well tomorrow.

Thanks so much Karen. Sorry it wasn’t meant for here. I have copied it across.
