Hi I am 50 years old and have been diagnosed with bowel cancer and had to have an emergency bowel resection I thought I was coping but went to pieces yesterday as I had 2 letters from my hospital yesterday 1 telling me that I have my 1st meeting with the oncologist on the 22nd if this month and the other letter stated that I have to have a ct thorax scan this week.  This scan worries me I am frightened I want to say to the consultant I do not want to hear bad news just positivity as I think I would cope better.

  • I am sure the ct is just to check.mine showed up 2 nodules on my lungs which on subsequent cts ,over 2 and a half years, havent changed at all and they have come to the conclusion that they are something I have always had.so even if your ct shows something it doesnt necessarily need treatment

All the best.I know this is a worrying time but you will get through it step by step especially when you know what the oncology plan is

  • Hi . Have you had your histology back yet and know if you’re needing chemo? A ct thorax is the standard checkup scan and they’ll just be making sure that everything is healing nicely inside before your follow up meeting.

The term scanxiety sums up the feeling of waiting for scan results nicely and the first few are always a worry but as time goes on and you get a few more clear ones under your belt then things will honestly feel a bit better.

They are a necessary part of your follow up treatment regardless of the outcome - if it’s clear then great, if something flags up then you’ve caught it early so try and look at them as a positive

    Take care
