Hi everyone. I got a positive result for blood from our national screening programme (FIT) and now have to have an urgent colonoscopy to check for cancer (polyps etc). I had been managing fine - I expect it's just a false positive as I've never noticed any blood - but this past week I've had cramping pains in my back passage and serious pain intermittently in my abdomen. This scares me and I'm now really anxious about the test. It's on Wednesday and I had thought the bowel prep was the only thing to worry about. Seriously anxious now

  • Hi

Hope the colonoscopy goes well for you ! You would be surprised at the number of people that come through here in the same position as yourself and it turns out to be something benign ! The stats certainly lean in that direction ! I think the last time I checked only 10% of all positive tests turned out to be cancerous !

    Hope that helps .

    Take care ,

It may be possible that your pains are triggered by stress. The Colonoscopy is very thorough and far less painful than I imagined. It was really interesting watching the screen. I wish you luck.

The Colonoscopy and the Endoscopy are not as bad as you think I had them both together .No pain and you will be offered a choice of sleep or seditive  I went for a sleep as it was a Candid Camera andCoffeea wee cup of tea Coffee .

As for the blood in your poo you would be surprised at what they find under the microscope..If someone can go with you it's better to have another pair of ears as to might get the results.  I wish you well and please try not to worry..Alaine

    Hi Alaine

Just got back from the hospital

The doctors removed 6 polyps from all over the bowels and intestines. They are now being sent to the lab for biopsing. 2 more weeks to wait for those results.

I had the best ever i.v. insertion. The tech was so nice and she gave me a local anaesthetic as the vein she was using was very deep. The cannula then just slipped in. Brilliant Slight smile

Thank you to those who reached out to me and gave me advice and positive thoughts. Much appreciated.
