Hi to all of you brave people.

I've only just joined and already feel the pisitive support you all share out!

I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Anal cancer on 15/09/2021  After being on the waiting list since January for hemmeroids for a Face-to-face app in outpatients.

I was booked in for surgery the next morning.

That got delayed till the following day.

Then after surgery I woke up with a Stoma bag on my left side!

Had 2 ct scans and an MRI scan

There after followed 12 days of pain and fear in hospital with various different doctors telling me different things. Like several biopsy removals for tests

Only to discover my discharge notes telling me they had removed a mass squamus cell carcenoma in my bowel , stoma connection, and a lesion on my right side, where there use to be an ovary.

Then 2 weeks later I had a PEP scan.

Now I'm nearly 6 weeks post op and have been told its anal squamus cell cancer stage 4

So today I had a ct scan and markers, in readiness for a 28 day course of Radiotherapy which there will also be a course of chemo

Fingers crossedI hopeful that they will be able to shrink my cancer and kill off the cellsFingers crossedbut I know it's not going to be a smooth road ahead!!

Fear of the unknown is my biggest weakness

Not being able to sit down since January!!

Reading all your positive posts gives me hope

I will follow your journeys and try to give back positive feeds to any one who needs itPrayFingers crossed

  • Hi

Welcome to the forum ! My phone is playing up as I seem to keep losing my replies to you !

I have read the squamus cells are more common in the anal area !
    https://community.macmillan.org.uk/cancer_types/anal-cancer-forum

I have linked in the anal cancer forum as you might find some good tips on how to sit comfortably etc ! It’s a good forum too ! Lots of cross over with regards to radiotherapy etc so please feel free to draw from both forums !

I have to say I find your delay quite shocking ! That’s very hard for you !

If you click on my user name you can read my mum’s story navigating a stage 4 diagnosis! Hard in that you don’t have a specific protocol with outcomes and the unknown element but they were very thorough and took great care of her !

I am so glad you got some hope from the forum ! That’s so important!

    Take care ,

  • Hi Court, Thank you for your reply and greetings.

I have since gone through a 28 session of chemo and radiotherapy from 8th Nov 21- 15th Dec 21. And yes it was a bit of a struggle with the  side affects that followed!

I've had numerous follow ups for skin burns plus another MRI scan (14thFeb 22). I have yet to have the results back from this one, nearly 7 weeks has passed and I've rang 3 times to find out. I get anxious waiting for results!

The stoma is a different matter! It doesn't want to behave! But I will be getting a reversal when I gain control of my pelvic floor muscles again.

    Still told it's early days!

I have another follow up 19th April with same doctor I've been under sjnce the start of my Chemo and Radiotherapy...... he's been very good and positive with my treatment.

The up side of this so far is getting a blue badge so I can be cheouffered around by my husband to and fro hospital appointments and park close to enterances so I don't need to struggle to walk too far.

    Two heartsTwo hearts

Positive thoughts go out to everyone going through their cancer treatments.

... It's helped me to keep goingThumbsup

  • Hi, , can't help but sending you a big (((hug)))!! You deserve it after all that! Take care

  • The waiting for results is so hard  and I hope you get them soon .
You have done remarkably well by the sounds of thing .

That was a great idea getting a blue badge . That would have made such a difference at the hospital for sure . I only thought of it afterwards and by then my mum was scooting around fine .

Let us know how you get on with your results .

    Take care ,
