I had my original operation July 31st 2019, and after 4 chemo sessions was declared cancer free on Jan 31st 2020. I was left with a colostomy but I've managed to come to terms with that. My question is around follow up. It's been 20 months since I was given the all clear, but I thought I would have yearly checkups. I know the pandemic has got in the way, but should I be pushing my gp and local hospital for an appointment. Am I being unrealistic expecting a follow up by now? We've all heard stories of cancer returning, and while I don't have any symptoms I'd feel happier if I had a follow up.
Hi, , I think it would be worth you ringing your collecterol nurse specialist, or if you don't have one, the secretary to your surgeon. My operation was in March 2019, and chemo May to Dec. I had a CT in both Dec 19, and 20, and due one this Dec too. So I think you should have at least a phone call. I've not had any real appointments apart from the scans, that all stopped, but I know I can ring if I'm worried. I think by now you need the reassurance of a chat with your team.
Absolutely . Here is a screen shot of the Nice guidelines ! You might like to check them out for yourself . Whilst I note some regional variations I would expect some form of follow up !
Glad you are doing well but best to make sure there has not been an admin error !
You are not being unrealistic at all it is protocol !
Take care ,
