Bowel resection December 2013, iliostomy fitted.

Metastices in both lungs January 2016 stage 4, bad news.

Capox chemo 6 months to August 2016, pretty nasty.

Radio Frequency Ablation at RVH Nov 2016 until September 2020 took out 10 mets but couldn’t treat 1 in each lung.

Folfiri started July 2021 .... so far so good. Fingers crossed.

  • Gosh  you have certainly endured a lot ! So pleased you joined us and I hope the Flofiri knocks the remaining two mets back down !

My mum has seen off over ten mets in her liver ! You have been at this for a long time ! Glad you are tolerating this regime well !

Glad to have you on the forum and here’s to more successful treatment !

Thank you Elsey, although it’s been frightening, it’s been 8 years since diagnosis. I’ve been lucky as I insisted on RFA on my lungs and that got me 5 extra years. So take advice from your consultants but check with others as well. Hopefully you have got in early and should be easily sorted out. It’s tough on family as well.

Hi Court. Your mum and yourself have also had that journey and it has been painful, especially for the family, who are waiting for final bad news. I got that bad news in Jan 16 but luckily found out about Radio Frequency Ablation, which has prolonged my life. Never say never and hopefully your mum is proof that you can survive. Cheers Michael

  • Hi , My mum had a spread at diagnosis back in 2009 ! What a shock it was at the time ! However like you she took what options were open to her and it’s stretched out to 12 years ! I have seen lots of improvement in treatment especially in the last five years !

She hit lots of bumps along the way but she got there !

    How do you find Chemotherapy?

    Take care ,

Hi Nelly, thank you for the best wishes. It has been great getting past the 5 year barrier with all the treatment although sad to watch so many others I followed on Twitter pass away. But I am hoping to hang around to see a grand child —- our Dog Ozzie is making do for the meanime.

  • Hi Roger M. I haven’t got as far as a year, I had chemo radiation got clear response then found liver mett had that done by RFA. But unfortunately growing back on my colon, told me it was cancer bFingers crossed 2 lots of pathology reports say pre cancerous. I don’t want to watch and wait, so it is surgery and chemo. So everything Fingers crossed crossed Nelly55 xx

Hi Nelly. First year is the worst for everyone. Getting head around dying and your family’s shock and maybe children and work and finances. It sounds as though you are getting good advice and making the right moves, Personally I wanted, if possible to remove cancer with op or Rfa, rather than chemo but you also need Nhs support and to rely on oncologists advice.

Sounds as if surgery and chemo are the way to go and don’t worry if it leads to things like ileostomy or hair-loss as those things can be sorted out later. (Hopefully).

i always fall back on ‘it could be worse’ Call me
