Hello I've just been released from hospital after surgery to remove my large bowel I am now living with a stoma & I'm looking for someone to talk to about how I cope with life
Hi @MK Man and welcome to the board. Having a stoma can be a little unsettling at first but there’s lots of support on here and from your stoma nurse. Do you have a colostomy or illeostomy? Things can be a bit erratic in the first few weeks but will settle down after that and once you get your stall set up then you’ll be able to change your bag pretty quickly. Make sure you measure your stoma every few days so you can cut your bags to the right size then once it’s stopped changing you have the option of getting them pre-cut?
Theres another board just for stomas and you might like to have a look at some of the posts on there too? If there’s anything in particular worrying you then please feel free to ask?

Hi, welcome to the chat. How are you getting on ? It is a big learning curve at the beginning I had an ileostomy 5 months ago so am now doing well with it. At the beginning it's best to be careful with your diet. I mostly had what I describe as Nursery food, everything very well cooked !!
Why did you have your large bowel taken out ?
Best wishes, Carog
Hi had a stoma done 2 months ago and to be honest it's not as bad as I thought. I hated it at the beginning wanted nothing to do with it bit with time and encouragement from the wife I am now dealinwith all aspects of it. Have certain foods I can not eat as the stoma is not happy. I understand everyone is different on what food upsets your stoma and you soon get to know what is a no no. I now
ll it my second bottom and even manage to joke over noises it sometimes make lol. Just take your time and no question is to daft to ask I ask many at the beginning
