Just when I thought everything was going to plan I just had a call from hospital radiation treatment cancelled as tumour in rectram to big. Now have to be admitted to hospital tonight to start chemo intravenous tomorrow. My mind is a blur is this normal and what does it mean for me. Totally gobsmacked and not knowing which way to turn
Hi AllanA1due
I too had a tumour in my rectum and in the early days my treatment plan changed several times, I was beside myself with worry and frustration. The surgeon wanted me to have Radiotherapy and chemo before surgery to shrink the tumour as much as possible but Radiotherapy was deemed too risky so I just had chemo before my surgery.
Your oncologist will no doubt explain the reasoning when you see them, but rest assured there will be several professionals considering what is the best plan for you in beating the cancer. There are so many different treatment plans depending on your circumstances so try not to worry too much (easier said than done).
I am now 3 weeks post surgery and recovering well.
The chemo isn't pleasent, but totally doable.
Fighting Cancer is tough but take the rough with the smooth and try and stay positive - you'll get through this.
Take care
