Hi there, I had a colonoscopy yesterday and was diagnosed with bowel cancer. I am now waiting for MRI and CT scans which take place on the 31st of August.

I am obviously shocked scared and my heads in the clouds.

  • Hi, so sorry about your diagnosis. Almost everyone in this group has been through the same or has a close family member who has Bowel Cancer.

I had my Colonoscopy in Feb, my scans in March and treatment started in April.

There are lots of different types of treatment and it depends on the type of cancer you have.

Try not to goggle too much cos it can be scary. This site has some very helpful information.

In the meanwhile try to keep busy and distracted so you don't think too much about it. Try to get as healthy as you can in preparation in terms of exercise and nutrition

Take care and let us know how you get on. Carog

  • Hi, thank you for that information and I will take it on board. I decided to carry life on as normal, I have a narrowboat and I’ve been cruising since early April, I am going back to my boat to continue cruising and finish that journey.

  • , sorry to hear that, but unfortunately there are a few of us that are only diagnosed that way, with very few clues beforehand. Sounds like a plan is in place, so enjoy the rest of your cruise!!

  • I found out in May that I had bowel cancer, also at the colonoscopy I had surgery in July, recovered well so far and will be starting chemotherapy soon. No advice really, like you I am making the most of my time feeling well. Good luck.
