Hi all, I  have had ongoing symptoms for around 3 years or more, bouts of diarrhoea and constipation but now getting mainly diarrhoea days with the odd 'rabbit dropping' day. I started not to go out as once the pain came I needed the bathroom. it got to the point where I was for 3 weeks continuously going to the bathroom. I lost 8 lb but wasn't eating , cold sores were coming up around my mouth and nose I was just so drained. Finally gave into ringing gp who sent in a stool sample as she suspected an infection then. It came back clear and marked ' no further action' 2 days later I asked for a phone consultation and spoke to a different doctor who said it needed investigating....this was Thursday 29th July, by the 31st I had a qfit test sent out, I returned it on Monday 2nd of August. Tuesday 3rd I recieved a call saying I had a phone consultation on the 5th with a specialist and he rang today with the news that I was 95% likely to have colorectal cancer. Now waiting on ct scan and colonoscopy to confirm this. Not entirely shocked but holding on to that 5% that he might be wrong.

  • Always difficult time. Li ve each day and work with specialis ts one step at a time

  • Hi  and welcome to the board. I also had a clear stool sample and clear bloods but luckily my GP sent me for a colonoscopy which showed the tumour -thank goodness you pushed for further investigation.

This initial few weeks of waiting for scans, results, meetings etc. is very stressful but once you have a plan in place then things will honestly feel a bit better. I really hope that the specialist is wrong but unfortunately they are very experienced in these things and usually have a pretty good idea.

I shall give you my usual advice which is to stay away from google - it is out of date and downright scary in places. You can read different posts on here and if you click on peoples names then their profile page might show their journey so far. Bowel cancer is notoriously slow growing but very treatable and everyone on the board will be happy to support you through this.

I was diagnosed in 2016 and I’m currently still cancer free as are the 2 ladies that I met online as we went through our treatment at the same time.

Please keep posting and let us know how things go and if there’s anything you want to ask then please do

    Take care

Thank you for your reply, I have friend who has gone through it and has put my mind at ease. missed a call from colonoscopy but they left a voicemail and asked me to ring back but it went to voicemail each time, I don't know if they are open over the weekend so maybe Monday before contact is made, guessing ct appointment will be posted out. Feeling surprisingly calm.
