Hi I was diagnosed with a malignant tumour in the ascending bowel on July 7, after a colonoscopy on June 25. It was a great shock as I had no symptoms. I did the bowel screening test in April and it came back positive. Thought it was only a polyp as I have experienced these in my womb a few years ago. Have a date for my operation and really scared as I have only ever had two minor operations. I am now happy to share my story to encourage anyone who is offered a bowel screening test to take it.
Hi and welcome to the board. Yes it comes as a bit of a shock when you’ve had no symptoms and feel fit and healthy but it’s good to hear that the nasty tumour will soon be consigned to the bin. I was also really nervous as I’d never been in hospital but everything was explained clearly and the anaesthetist talked to me before the op as well.
The nurses will be keen to get you up and in a chair the day after and walking up and down the ward as soon as possible. I’ve attached a link to a booklet below which tells you a bit about what to expect and also some handy hints on what to take with you.

Hope it all goes well and glad you’re here to share your story
Take care

Hi Plarto, Having carefully avoided doing the many screening tests I was sent I found myself with a tumour in 2019. Had I done a test and it found earlier it might have saved me and my family a lot of grief and the NHS a lot of money! Like you, I try to tell people to do the test when ever possible.
Good luck with the operation, I had only had minor things done before so this was an experience I thought I could have done without but the system worked, all the staff were great, everything was explained to me and the net result is that twelve months after the treatment I was shown as clear. Just hope it stays that way!
All the best, John
