Hello, I am very pleased to join this group. I live in Milan and am being treated in a University research hospital. So far I am very pleased with everything. Best wishes to all.
Starting radiotherapy can be an anxious time not knowing what to expect or the likely outcome. It may therefore be helpful if I recount my experience. I was diagnosed with Stage 3b rectal cancer in Jan, following which a short course of radiotherapy over 5 days was carried out in the hope that this would shrink my tumour and make any subsequent surgery easier. I have been very pleased to learn that followup CT and MRI scans were not able to detect any evidence of the tumour. A subsequent sigmoidoscopy and DRE has visually confirmed the results from the scans. I have now been placed in a watch and monitor category, in which I will have MRI scans and sigmoidoscopies every 3 months for a year. If after a year there is no recurrence of the tumour the time between scans will increase to 6 months and then 12.
I hope you will have a similar experience.
