  • Hi
    Welcome to the forum !
Hopefully others will pop on but I was wondering if you would benefit from chatting it through with the helpline staff ! 0808 808 0000. Some people seem to benefit from counselling at this stage in the process and some of that has moved online making it more accessible. They might be able to assist you in finding something to help .

  • Hi thanks Court.I did have 4 sessions of councelling by phone from a local cancer charity which helped.I was just wondering if anyone else had found themselves in this position. The combination of illness, operation, stoma, chemo, lockdown.just seemed to come all at once.I was interested in others views or whether I was the only one going a bit "loopy" with it all.katz51

  • You are definitely not alone on that one from what I read on the forum . Hopefully they will pop on as I am a relative so little use to you . However watching how people had to navigate treatment during corona compared to the support given to my mum prior to that caused me great concern .
You are definitely not “loopy” just reacting to a life altering illness during a historic pandemic makes you a total rock in my book but as one of my mum’s surgeons said after two years of continuous treatment and she was a bit worn out “ even people with the most well constructed defences get a bit worn down !” .

has an article she found helpful at this stage . I will try and link it in for you .

  • Hi Katz51,

I really empathise with you . It’s not until you get off that horrendous rollercoaster it hits you . It’s like having PTSD . I had a few sessions with the cancer psychologist ( Macmillan put me in tRelaxeduch with them Relaxed️) decided I needed a bit more help with antidepressants. They took a while to work but they really helped . I’m off them now ( tapered off slowly) but would not hesitate to go back on them if I need a bit of help X

  • Thanks for understanding.I tried antidepressants briefly but wow they didnt do my stoma any good.the gp said they all had that affect and as I didnt want to affect that I was rather put off them.

Glad you got thro it.hopefully I can as well

  • Hi , I find that article so true, I even occasionally read it now 2 years down the line. And you are most definitely not alone. I too had just finished chemo in the Dec 19, and was probably at my lowest then and Jan. Its been a struggle, but the drift is definitely in the right direction. I did have a counsellor from about december, which switched to phone in march. I kept this going for longer than normal as I unfortunately caught covid in early march, and was again struggling. If I can help I will, if you prefer to friend me so discussions are more private, that's fine. You are now in the right place for people to help you. Big (((hugs)))
