Hello I’m Alison

Just joined this cancer support group.
My husband was diagnosed with stage 4. Bowel cancer 5 weeks ago. There is no treatment for him as he is 82 and not fit enough for chemo or radiotherapy. It’s all been a big shock and still feel it hasn’t quite sunk in. He’s loosing weight rapidly and feeling angry with himself and helpless. We have got the support of the local Hospice at home charity but he’s not a person who finds it easy to talk about his feelings. Be good to hear from anyone in a similar situation and would welcome any advice.

I am so sorry to hear about your husbands diagnosis. It’s hard to come to terms with especially when it is unexpected.
I have linked in a special forum for relatives that are looking after someone who is not receiving treatment and the support there may be relevant to you in the situation you find yourself in . They will completely understand and will give you a warm welcome if you wish to use it .

It is very hard to hear there is not any treatment options but hopefully there will be good support !

Our helpline staff would be happy to chat through any aspects of this particularly how to navigate supporting your husband when he is not communicating his feelings . There number is 0808 808 0000 if you wish to chat .

We are here on this thread at any time of you need some support or just someone to listen to you . It’s not easy but with the right support and guidance it can help reduce some of the fears .

    Take special care ,

    Court
