Hi, my husband was just diagnosed 2 weeks ago with colon cancer during a colonoscopy. They took 6 biopsies which confirmed. It was a huge yellow mass, and the Doctor couldn’t get the camera around o past it. Since then I had to take him to A&E with SEVER abdo pain, they did a C.T scan which showed it has spread to the Liver
️ it has been a full week now and he hasn’t opened his bowels! He can’t eat! And it’s too painful to drink also. He was informed by the cancer nurse at hospital he has to sail until next Tuesday be
ng it ANOTHER 10 days before he will be able to speak to anyone. Which means he has to walk the floor in agony all this time?? He has been taking orimorph but it’s not even easing the pain! Is this
ll normal?? I’m really concerned
️
Hi
https://www.macmillan.org.uk/cancer-information-and-support/impacts-of-cancer/blocked-bowel
I have linked in a leaflet from Macmillan on bowel obstruction. I would be phoning the hospital to say you think he potentially has one and want him urgently assessed . Or take him back to A and E . It is better to have a planned intervention than for his bowel to burst !
It is not acceptable to walk the floors in this level of pain . I would phone right away . If it was me I would use the term “ bowel obstruction” .
If you can get him to A and E yourself it might cut out a lot of waiting around on phone calls but I would definitely not wait any longer .
He needs to be assessed urgently !
When you have got this urgent issue resolved please do come back and we can chat about navigating a spread to the liver .
Send him our very best wishes for quick intervention.
Take care ,
