Hi everyone,
I’m Will and I had Dukes B colon cancer in 2008. I had surgery and follow up chemo (oral) Capecitabine and Oxaliplatin. I had an enzyme deficiency though so had really bad reactions, at one point I woke up one morning and my mouth was sealed shut from coagulated blood coming from sores/ulcers in my mouth and I could t even swallow my own saliva because of the pain. Anyway eventually I got the clear and decided to carry on with life as you do. I’ve always had loose stools every now and then after the surgery, but recently my bowel habits started changing several times a day, sometimes light/pale, sometimes loose and dark, bowel discomfort, nausea during the day etc. I went to the GP a couple of weeks ago, I had blood tests which came back normal, but my FIT tests came back positive. Now I’m waiting for my Colonoscopy on Friday and I’ve got all kinds of stuff going through my head.
So here goes the wait.
This is an amazing site and it’s a privilege to be able to see everyone’s journey and where they’re at. I hope everyone is ok whatever stage they’re at.
Hi Will. That would be seriously bad luck to have a reoccurrence after 13 years? There are several things can could result in blood being detected by the fit test and hopefully the colonscopy will find that it’s nothing serious. I’ve got my 4.5 year colonoscopy on Friday so bracing myself for the moviprep
Please let us know how you get on?
Take care
Karen x
Hi Karen,
Yes I’m keeping my fingers crossed. I think I saw you mentioned about your colonoscopy on another post, because we’ve also got to have the PCR test as well on Tuesday which I hadn’t even taken in to consideration! So nearly a whole week off work and having to isolate for the rest of the week! Deffo going to have to keep busy at home to keep my mind occupied.
Yeah it’s been a while since I’ve had to take that stuff but I still remember it not being much fun!
Thanks for reaching out and best of luck for Friday I hope it goes well, I’ll reply with an update and be waiting to hear some good news for you too!
Best wishes,
Will. X

Did you use the site when you were first diagnosed? I have been here since around 2010 . My mum was a stage 4 patient and it has seen me through all the ups and downs of recurrences. She just got discharged from oncology last month. I think she must have been one of the longest patients on the books . We could always tell when her appointment was coming to the top as everyone else had skinny medical files and my mum’s was about three inches thick !
They have taken good care of her .
Take care and hope your able to take your mind off things today and do something nice ! Even for half an hour !

Hi Court,
I didn’t use the site last time. I had a weird attitude towards cancer back then as I was young and still felt infallible. The doctors, nurses and all healthcare staff made everything seem manageable even in the not so nice bits. It feels different this time though, maybe being a bit older and recognising I have so much more to lose.
You sound like you’ve had a really tough journey with your Mum and to go through it all for that length of time must take resilience of a whole different level.
Yh I’ve got a few house chores to do to keep me busy and I’ll probably watch a bit of telly too. Or maybe a lot of telly, I’m not sure yet.
Will.
. Good luck for tomorrow Will x
Hi Will. All clear Hope yours is too

Hi Karen,
Yes! So happy for you well done! They removed 7 small polyps which are being sent for testing but overall the tissue was healthy and no sign of recurrence. He said if there’s anything dodgy with the polyps then back in a year to check other than that back in three years for a check up. All in all a good result I’d say!
Congrats Karen and take a well deserved rest and treat yourself!
Best wishes,
Will. X
